Just bought a second flat monitor and have it connected to my computer using Windows 7.  I can get  the same picture on both screens but would like to have the drawing on the laptop screen and a textured version on the second moniter.  Is this possible.  If so, I would really appreciate someone explaning how.

Happy New Year to All.  Just upgraded to 2014 from 2012.

not sure if it's the same on Win 7, but on win 8 it's:

CONTROL PANEL / APPREANCE AND PERSONALIZATION / DISPLAY / PROJECT TO A SECOND SCREEN / EXTEND   or   CHANGE DISPLAY SETTINGS

Thomas, I have got that.  The part I can't seem to make work is  getting the main floor drawing on one monitor and the 3-D textured drawing on the second monitor.  Like the split screen under the Window tab but seperated into monitors.

Right click on the tab that you want to move to the second monitor and choose "move to new window".  You can then just drag the new "child window" to the second monitor.  You can have multiple child windows.

James. I have followed your instructions but still have a problem.  I can get the second monitor to duplicate the first monitor, no problem.  Changed to settings to extend, moved the textured tab to a new window but it will not drag to the second monitor.  Any ideas?

what i have been doing lately is using 3 monitors but i just extend the side of the Softplan window across all three monitors, then i just use the 'vertical tab group' to have three files (or tab groups) open ie first floor, basement, and 3d.

There might be a better way, but this works for me!

Hope this helps!

Jack,  are you able to move your mouse pointer or do anything on the extended monitor?  Do you have the monitors arranged properly?  Try going into the Control Panel>Display>Screen Resolution.  There you should be able to see how the displays are arranged.  I am thinking you might have the extended display physically on one side of the main display but your computer thinks it is somewhere else.

I am not a pro on this but that is what I would check.

Did James's trick to right click on the tab, "move to new window" not work? If you are able to split one window between your monitors, this should be what you are looking for.

Jack, I think you need a graphics card that has 2 plugin in the back of your computer to run each monitor to, and if you have that, you can right click the screen and open up you graphics card info, and my NVidia quadro 4000 has a setup for "multiple monitors"  I don't think you can have each screen showing different stuff without a graphic card that has 2 plugins

I am not running two monitors at the moment but I was a while back (but windows 8 with AMD graphics) and it should work fine.

If you can not drag a window from one monitor to the next than something is wrong with your monitor configuration.

I want to thank all of you who are helping me solve this.  I have been out of the loop for the past two weeks,  My wife spent 8 days in the hospital, came home and passed away this past weekend.  I hope to be able to start back next week.  At that time I will try all your suggestions.  Again, thanks for the help to date.

My problem with two monitors is  solved.  My son came home for the services and was able to show me how to do it. He is pretty good with computers,  like he says he flys one for a living.  He is a Captain with American Alrlines.  Thanks to all who helped.
