Is there a way to define an exposed ribbon joist to be drywalled? For example where the floor edge is exposed for a split entry. I know I can draw a solid and copy/paste the surface texture but there must be an easier way.

 

Here is a 3-D view of a work in progress showing the floor at the top of the stairs from a split entry.

Nope, there is no easy trick to cover that edge.

I would normally put a wall there that is just a layer of sheetrock

Drywall

Drywall automatically caps the exposed end of an interior wall if displayed in plan view.

This is an exposed ring joist as far as I can tell, 

If it was a wall it would cover the decking.

 

It seems to me though that if i where worried about the deck showing I would want to take the extra time to finish the handrail and trim
