I am currently designing a house that has some barn style to it and would like to add a widows peak to several gables.

Any ideas on how to do this??

Thanks!

Pull the gable out from the face of the wall as far as you need to the front of the widows peak and then use a hole (you can draw it as one continuous hole - even though it looks like two) to cut away what you don't need.

Although you will have to turn off the soffit and create it with a ceiling, and you'll still get an odd detail where the fascia's meet, as Softplan will only cut the fascia square.

for a simple widows peak as keith shows,

cutting out the unwanted roof is definitely

the easiest way to go,

you can also put in beams to get the same widows peak.

or

you can put in beams for the roof to follow at the gable

and get some different design / style

such as the widows BEAK at the far right

note, when using the 2 beams,  notice that the ridge will be sloped

instead of a level ridge like Keith's method of drawing a regular square end

and cutting the hole at the angles.

note:  roofs are always the most difficult to learn in softplan.

best to practice each time you read threads such as this one

so it'll be easy when you have a similar roof style.

don't forget the use of beams along with the walls.
