Keith and others explained many times how do deal with site plans

but i got stuck in some problems more

drawing the site plan, generate the existing grade for the property

and set down a building on the right level and draw the curb, sidewalk and road as well

was not a problem for me

the property slopes down in two directions from east to west and

steeper from north to south, main entrance/garage is on the north side

- is it possible to overlay a final grad on top of the existing grade

to show the distance and what amount of material has to be filled in

- i want to draw also walkways, planting beds, etc. on the sloping final grade

all this seems very difficult to me

i would appreciate any help

thank you in advance

-stefan

Interesting question.

Since site plan in Softplan is a 3d model I do not see how you could show the final graded site on top of it.

It would be nice to have the ability to create a final site "plane" that could be viewed on top of the 3d pre-grade site model.

If the grade plane were translucent then , you could really visualize what would be need for fill.

Cut would then be the problem since the 3d model would block any section of the translucent plane that embedded in the model.

I wonder how civil engineers work with this.

yeah, indeed that would be nice to show a 3D refill body with opacity or translucent

i got the property contour and placed about 150 existing grade points

my client would be happy to see the final landscaping

maybe somebody did it already or has the same question

SketchUp Pro 2015 could be

a solution but i have no experience with it

i remember Randy Cohen does some nice work with landscaping but not in this "real" case

For the planting beds, walkways etc, I would draw what you want with lines (no matter how small) to start with, and add shot points at all the changes in direction all round the proposed edge. Then add planting bed or walkway - again ONLY in lines -  arcs tend not to blend with ground properly. Obviously the smaller the lines are, the more realistic the curves. Once you have the profile of the bed complete, check CUTS GROUND and then click FIT SITE POLYGON TO GROUND.

If you do the existing grade (assuming the the final grade is a PROPERTY LINE) as anything thats not in use ... For example SETBACK and edit its height and VERTEX POINTS.

As Steve said, you can change the OPACITY of both the PROPERTY and SETBACK polygons to see both grades at the same time, but it may get very confusing!
