Hello everyone....    first time on this forum.

Hopefully someone can help me understand why when tracing a hole on my roof, it will not remove shingles and sheathing when I review in model.

when I trace the hole on the main floor roof (in roof mode) it does appear to remove the materials.  I have performed a cleanup and then go into the model and regenerate, but there is no hole present.  tried this in many different locations and on different roofs and planes, but still no luck.  Also tried trace rect hole, auto hole, etc....

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Is the "extract in model" checked in the edit options for the hole?

You're not giving us a lot to work with here. Can you be a little clearer on what you are doing, and where. In one sentence you say it doesn't work and in the next that it does!.

Are you using multiple floor roofs, or do you have separate roofs on each level?

I can think of a couple reasons:

1.  You are not choosing the correct roof to be traced before tracing.  When using the trace hole command you need to first pick the roof section that you want the hole in, then create the hole for that section of roof.  (Although from your post this seems unlikely)a

2.  Is it possible you are working on a plan that is not included in the model stack?  I have on occasion been frustrated when my work would not show up on the 3D only to find out I was working on the wrong plan.  This happened when I created multiple versions of the same floor for various options.   (For example: Main Floor, Main Floor 2, Main Floor 3)

If I think of anything else I'll post.

Brent,  When tracing the hole have you been first selecting the roof you want the hole cut in?

Click on the roof, roof will be outlined, trace the outline of the hole along all sides back to point

of beginning, the hole should be generated. To check right click on the area of the hole, hole

should appear and be editable. If this all happens the hole should appear in 3D   Steve

Brent I was having the same problem.  I had an 10:12 roof over the garage (using an attic truss for bonus room) and another roof section (8:12) tying into

it.  My stairs were coming up in that area.  I needed to cut a hole in the 10:12 so I could have an opening for stair access.  The 8:12 roof was set to "hip"

instead of "intersect" so it had plywood sheathing and shingles blocking the hole I had cut in the roof underneath.  Once I changed to "intersect" I could

see the hole in the 10:12 roof.  Hope this helps someone else since the last post was in 2016 :)
