Ok, so i just got a second screen... and hooked it up, and now the cursor within Softplan is giving me issues.

If I use softplan on the laptop I have, it is fine, the cursor moves when I want it, and doesnt move once i stop.

Once I move softplan to the 2nd screen, the cursor goes nuts. if i move it, it will keep moving in the XY axis, in the direction I nudged the mouse, and doesnt stop until it hits the end of the drawing area, or I move the mouse (in which case, it goes on a tangent in another direction.

This only happens within the drawing screen, if I go to the menu, or the navigation screen, the cursor acts normally. Any suggestions? this is making it incredibly difficult to work.

from Technical Support FAQ:

My cursor moves around the SoftPlan drawing area on its own and is very difficult to control.

To correct random cursor movement on the SoftPlan drawing area do the following. Exit SoftPlan, and on your Windows Desktop right click on the SoftPlan shortcut icon and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab select the option "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".

You could also try ...

In the windows CONTROL PANEL > MOUSE > POINTER OPTIONS tab and uncheck ENHANCE POINTER PRECISION

Has anyone else had this problem and found a better solution?  I tried both of the above suggestions but neither one is a very good solution in my case.  I recently purchased a surface book, with dedicated Nvidia GPU, to use as my primary design computer so my desktop can be used just for renderings and animations.  I'm using the surface dock and two Samsung 32" curved monitors.  I also get the cursor that wants to continue moving after the mouse is stationary and only in softplan.

I tried the above suggestions from support FAQ, which did indeed solve the cursor issue...BUT, when you do that, the ribbon, menus, etc become HUGE and fill up at least the top 1/4 of the screen.  Some of the drop down menus are then cut off at the bottom of the screen...for instance, I can't see system options in the file drop down when in that compatibility mode.  I actually liked the larger icons and menus, and would love something in between....but they would need to all be functional and not take up so much of the drawing screen.

I reverted back to the original compatibility settings and tried Keith's suggestion of unchecking "Enhance Pointer Precision" in windows.  Again....solved the erratic cursor problem but now the cursor is choppy in all applications and in softplan, I've lost the ability to move things precisely using the arrow keys.

I've submitted a ticket to SP tech...just hoping someone else maybe has some suggestions over the weekend.  I've got such a huge backlog of work right now that I can't afford to not be working 6 days a week!!!

Sam

THANKS - your suggestion about unchecking the enhance pointer precision worked.  It was driving me crazy - thanks for saving my sanity!

I finally have gotten some settings to work that are livable, but not 100% perfect...still tweaking settings to get things to work just right.  If I wasn't trying to use 2 external monitors plus the surface book monitor, I think I could make it work fine.

I did just receive the following from tech support so there may be a better fix for this in the future.

"thank you for the additional information.  We have been able to repeat the issue here, but unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a simple fix that will correct the issue.  It appears it will require a program update to correct and this issue has been passed onto the development team."

Gotta hand it to softplan for always being willing to look into issues for their users!!!

I have had the same problem in the past.   Did you say you were using surface Book(laptop)?   If you are, In order to stop my problem I had to turn off my touchpad.  To turn mine off I use Fn/ F7.  See if that works.

Same problem here on a new Dell "gaming" laptop with 2 external monitors.  Cursor worked fine in SP on laptop monitor, but went crazy on 2 external monitors.  Tried the fix mentioned by John Jones/SoftPlan Tech Support FAQ and it seems to be working fine now with no other issues.  Thanks for the posts!

Full list of help on resolving an erratic mouse, a mouse that jumps, or a mouse that does not move properly. It is not uncommon for a piece of hair or fuzz to block the sensor on the bottom of the mouse, preventing the optical sensor from working properly.

Could my issue be related to this thread?

- - - - - - - - - -

Me:

There is a slight cursor delay on my Basement & Foundation Plans.  For instance, when adding a dimension it has a slight delay before placing the dimension.  I do not have this issue on the Main & Second levels.  Do you have a remedy for this?

SP Tech:

The issue is seems to be related to the custom speed notes for the wall notes. I am not sure why at this point, but exploding them will speed up the dimensions.

I will make a suggestion regarding this on your behalf.

Me:

I have tried exploding all of my wall Speed Notes and the delay was much, much less.  So I continued to explode more of the speed notes and I do not notice a delay.

Also, I've added 18 of the wall notes on my Main floor plan and there is no delay.  Why would this only occur on the Foundation & Basement plans?

SP Tech:

Thank you for the update.

It is a combination. The speed notes linked to the pointers seem to cause the issue.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I will now be exploding all Speed Notes with an attached pointer.

It would be interesting if those with cursor issues are also using many custom speed notes with pointers attached.

Same trouble with a mouse that continuously scrolls.  I checked "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" in properties and it fixes the mouse issue but my toolbar gets so large it takes up way too much real-estate.  Softplan tech support said just to reduce display resolution but this didn't help much.

Softplan Tech support said they've never heard of this issue.

Apple Mac Book Pro running Bootcamp, Windows 10, and 27" Thunderbolt display.

Softplan 2018 and Softplan 2014.

Any ideas?

Recently got a new Dell laptop with gaming speed capabilities and am having the same cursor issue.  It's driving me nuts.  I have one extended monitor attached.

I'm having the same issue on a new Lenovo with Nvidia GeForce. The above two methods work, but have serious down sides. What's a solution that doesn't?
