How do you get a boxed out window look like the window on the upper left side of the attached pic ?

Exactly as they would construct it. Use 2" x 6" walls around it. That way you can reference floor and roof to the correct locations too.

Some Basic Steps,  .. but not tuned for fine detail representation

.. but it will give you some ideas for approaching the model

 

Use an Opening Arch, .. Blank will work, .. size and position

both horizontally and vertically in your Main Exterior Wall

and to suit your 'box out'

 

Create Exterior Walls to make up the ‘Box Window’, .. offset up as required

(this example uses a different 2x6 wall type so the finish can be different than the Main Exterior)

Insert style of window desired.

Minimize Wall Joint Tolerances

 

Move ‘Box Walls’ into place against Main Exterior

 

You can try experimenting with a ‘Floor System’, .. maybe on another level, ..

.. that way you can cover floor with exterior finish, .. if that’s your preference.

I’ve added a solid as a base for the Boxed Window, positioned as I need it and match my colours.

 

Add Roof to suit


.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.
