Good Morning,

Is there a way to tie colors to the pen styles?  I would like to either a pen style or a color when I want to draw a line.  After I have worked on my drawing and I have the different colors/pen styles set up, I can use "select item to draw" and I will keep the same settings.  It just seems every time I start a new drawing to set up each option correctly is a bit redundant, and if I don't set the pen styles correctly it is not noticeable until I print it out.

TIA,

Dave

Sure. Just set up your default pens to suit ... and then have the coloured pens print for specific items in the Pen Setup menu.

Is that what you mean?

I think that is what I want, but it is not working for me.  I have set the colors to match the line weights I want, but when I select draw a line, changing the pen style does not set the color to match, or setting the color does not adjust the pen style...

Now I have messed up my plan set drawing (pdh attached).  The walls are gone on my model (looks like the room space is overlapping the walls?), but it is in drawing mode.  And even with my pdf writer set to black and white it is plotting in color.  The colors and line weights are correct, put I still need to select each choice separately.  Is there a reason you set the colors on the higher pen setting numbers?

I did try erasing the drawing and resetting it on my page, and closing softplan and starting it up again...

Sorry Dave, I may have misled you there. The default pens are PRINT colours only.

Softplan's SCREEN colours have no bearing on the print output. The only thing that is CRITICAL is the actual PEN NUMBER of the line you draw. Screen colours are ENTIRELY redundant.

So for instance ... everytime I use pen 14 it will PRINT Orange and pen 16 will PRINT Red, regardless of what colour the line is shown on the screen.

The only reason that the colours were on the higher numbers, is so I can remember what they are ...

Dave, ..

Assuming this is sort of what you're looking for....

My approach utilizes a symbol I've created that is comprised of Lines that are colour coded to the Line Weights (printed weights) I use.

I insert this symbol (the coloured lines to the left of the attached image) into my drawing (if I'm not already using an existing drawing), .. explode and use 'Select Item to Draw'

I can recognize a given line weight by its screen colour, .. but like Keith, .. my Configure Pen Print Styles is set differently (right side of attached image).

(The Print Pen Styles shown is set 'black' so my PDFs are created in black and white, .. my preference)

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.

Doug ... Can you really tell the difference between 0.10mm, 0.11mm. 0.12mm and 0.13mm thicknesses? Shouldn't they be 1.0mm, 1.1mm, 1.2mm and 1.3mm? and pens 10, 14 and 15 are identical.

Thanks, Doug.  That will work nicely.  This weekend I will work on learning how to create my own symbols and speed notes.

Keith, ..

Yes, .. there is a visible difference between them when printed, ..

These are Pen Weights that harken back to my hand-drawn-with-ink-pens days,

..the weights are pretty much the same as then, .. I used a .35 for lettering, .. a .50 for Wall Linework, .. and so on, .. .80 was a very think pen ..

EDIT, .. Just re-read your post Keith, .. I only use Pens 1 thru 8 and 16, .. the other pen weights I don't use so those were never set to be anything, .. hence the .10, .. .11, .12

I never really looked at those to see that they were that 'fine of a' differentiation

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.
