Is there a way that you can put a Logo for signage on the 3D model? Working on an office/shop and want to get the logo/sign on there to see.

This example uses a 'texture' (the logo) .jpg saved into one of the Softplan texture folders.

There are two solids here, .. one very thin as the front, .. the other forming the solid behind (solid 1 and solid 2)

Surface texture is edited in the model and the logo incorporated, .. tile size adjusted to suit.

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.

You might have to select Invert and also scale for it to fill the sign. You can also play with the Opacity.

Of course, a lot depends on the complexity of your logo ...

You could do it like this too.

How'd you do that Kieth? The plane works good but then there is a white background behind it.And I love the 3D look to it.

I built it as a polygon, then edited it to a solid polygon and used the symbol wizard to re-orient it.

"How'd you do that Keith?"

My guess is a 3D Symbol of the Logo, .. inserted into drawing and elevated to suit, ...

The logo was done in Softplan 2012 I think, and had to be done in ALL polygons. Bear in mind that 2016 can now produce 3D TEXT, which make it a lot simpler, and with the power of Softplan drawing a 3D version of any logo shouldn't be too difficult.

Keith,

I need to create 3D text that follows an arc (overhead metal sign at the entrance to a park). How is that done in SP?

You can't do it with the 3D text (or at least I don't think so), you'll have to create the text as 3D polygons. Basically draw the logo in plan with 3D polygons so that you get exactly what you need. Then reorient them in the symbol wizard to create a symbol of the logo. It's Thanksgiving here, so I'm can't spend time doing a tutorial at the moment, but I'll come up with something in the next couple of days. Can you post a picture of the sign that you want to see ...? One thing you should be aware of though, is you can't form a void in a polygon, so the void will have to be created as part of the polygon. Sounds complicated, but it will all become clear when you see the tutorial.

Understood Keith Thanks! I'll create the curved text in plan view then trace each letter as a solid polygon and convert them to symbols. Time consuming but can be done. I don't have sketchup pro with the bender plug-in so I'll have to do it the hard way. no need for the tutorial. THANKS!

Keith, It actually turned out pretty nice but it does have a personal name on the sign (sponsor) so I'd rather not publish it. please email me and I'll send a couple JPG images. Took about an hour to trace the letters. midwestdesign01@outlook.com

Sometimes you can cheat a little, by creating the letters in a graphic design package such as INKSCAPE, and exporting (SAVE AS from INKSCAPE) as DWG. OR If your graphic package doesn't support DWG, you can export as PDF and import into INKSCAPE and then directly export as DWG

How about this one for signage ... Probably took more time than it was worth, but as a proof of concept I think it worked very well ...

That's what I thought that Shawn was going to do, but his was a little different.

Another thing that may be worth mentioning...

Using Softplans 3D TEXT command, and choosing the fonts carefully ... Using UNICODE characters or some of the more interesting wingding or other decorative fonts can also give some interesting effects that can also be used in signage.
