I'm curious how you name your files and number drawings using plan sets?  I've looked at AIA documents but curious what other softplan users have found effective.

I subscribe to the KISS principle - keep it simple stupid !

I call my sheets what they are - i.e. FRONT - LEFT

I simple number my sheets 1, 2,  3,  etc.

I have never cared for architectural sheet labeling unless you have lots of each different kind of drawing (architectural, structural, electrical etc.)

For numbering I usually try to follow the given AIA system.  I do modify it a bit so I get A-1.0. A-1.1, A-2.3, etc.  As for names? I stick with what makes sense (Main Floor plan, Roof Plan, Front Elevation)

I use the same convention as Steve, I name them what they are, and let the Planset auto number them.

I create GROUPS first - A- , E- , X-

I then put all my new or proposed drawings under A- which would put A-1, A-2, etc on the title block

I put any electrical plans under E- which would put E-1, E-2, etc on the title block

I put any existing plans (do quite a bit of renovation work) under X- which would put X-1, X-2, etc on the title block.

For my coversheet and site plans, I create a new page that does not go under any of the above and put them under the A- group.

I move them to the top of the drawing list to get the order that I want, Coversheet then Site Plan then the rest of my A-1, A-2, etc pages.

I edit the drawing page to not use the auto naming function and then use Overview notes to add my sheet names where the auto naming would typically go.

I use CVR for the coversheet and SITE for the site plan

When I export a pdf or print, i can use "print all pages" and the entire set is together, including my coversheet and site plan, because they are located under the group A-

No, by using groups and defining prefixes, You can easily create varied numbering systems - although you can only go 1 layer deep. As far as I'm aware you can't make a group within a group.

You can also name the groups whatever you want I just used Group as a name for ease.
