I have a customer that wants to have the look of a timber truss at the entry of a covered porch. I have drawn more complicated trusses before , although it has been a while , using lines arcs and the solid polygon tool to make a 3-d symbol. This time I am having a problem when I click inside of the polygon all of the lines will not convert over ( some still show up as just lines) I am doing an 8/12 pitch so I copied a cross section to make sure I had the right pitch And started my symbol. Thought that had something to do with it, so I drew it all with lines adjusting everything to the correct pitch still have the same problem. My customers are tweeking the drawings and expect me to have a 3-d of this section of the house next week can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Chuck P  SOFTPLAN 2012 User since 1995 but I'm lost on this one. THANKS.

Typically, filleting all the corners should correct the problem with lines not converting to FORM SOLID POLYGON.

If that doesn't work, explode everything, and put it on a separate layer, and then draw 3d polygons over it, by snapping to the corners. If you have arcs, add a deflection to the polygon edge and then edit the radius to suit. (You can copy the radius by editing the line/arc below and copy and pasting the radius from the edited component).

For anyone unsure, if you create the truss on a separate drawing and edit the model to ONLY include that drawing, then exporting the symbol as a "3D" .DWG file is the easiest method of creating a working 3D symbol.

Hey Keith man you have saved my life I didn't do it with the fillet tool the last time I remember I just zoomed in real tight and tried to make sure all edges were closed . The fillet  worked like a charm,  I am at a lost to the rest of you guys I am a builder first and a designer second my drawing time is on rainy days and of the evening, so every little thing I can talk to some of you guys really helps . Thanks again for your help have a good one catch you next time. Chuck P.
