I need to get this rendering spruced up some for a brochure for a Parade Home.  The kicker is I need it to them by end of business day tomorrow (March 9th).  In addition I need to do presentation drawings of the floorplans (which I never really created).  I would love to hear critique, helpful hints, settings, shortcuts, etc. on any thing.  I have not used Sketch-up and do not have Photoshop (but would be open to getting if not too $$).

I have tried to open a copy in the 2018 beta but in doing so some my walls are not offsetting correctly and I cant get them back and dont have to the time to trouble shoot, unfortunately.

Thank you

the IMAGE in this thread is toms,

I saved it and took it into photoshop "ELEMENTS".

note: elements is plenty for playing with our renderings

from softplan.

I don't use 5% of what's available.

probably only 1%

a few clicks of auto-this and auto-that

not sure what you want help with but i'll do what I can.

we can hook up our computers, if you'd like,

Thanks Randy, I appreciate it.  I want to learn "how to fish" instead of someone fishing for me.  Which is why I am looking for tips or shortcuts.  Though time may get to me and might have to tap out to an expert for some items.

I think I may need to move to the Photshop part to give it the extra bump. What aspect or Photoshop are you using?  I think they have it in different levels (illustrator, creative cloud, lightroom

My driveways are week, as is most of my sitework (cant get that real feel).

Try adding ridge cap to your hips, it helps them stand out.

Try the "Line Options" in the textured mode.  Check the box that says "display lines" as well as "display silhouette"  I have my line thickness at 1 and my display texture lines set at 20.  The line color I have set at black.  t's been a few years since I have played with those settings much.  I just save the settings under render options and use them on every project.  I think playing with those settings will help your model pop a bit more.  Just for kicks I turned my line settings off and it definitely looks more muddled (if that's even a word)

I would also consider adding more ambient light to your model.  Maybe even turn up the headlamp brightness on your camera.

Try those couple of things and post back your results.... I'm curious

For example...

This pic is with the line options>display lines box checked.

And this is the exact same settings with the display lines box unchecked.  Everything else is the exact same.

I tried the ridge caps but on a few of my roofs it messed it all up.  Not sure what it did or if the roof got too complicated with it all.  Bummer as for the ones that it did work on it looked good.

As for the line display, I am trying for photo realistic so I skipped that.

Try making the glass darker/more reflective. On a light day, you can't see into windows.

parade home 1.jpg Thanks Keith.  I also rotated it and came in and down a bit.  There was too much garage that I didn't like showing it all.  Also added more landscaping, framing it with tree branches.  I think I have too much reflective.  Looks like there was quite a rain to give the sheen on the driveway

I think you're right ... unless you have a polished granite driveway, you might have overdone the reflection.

I noticed that when you changed the house orientation you also lowered the camera giving a more realistic view plane. Makes all the difference in the world. I always try to generate the image from the viewpoint of eyelevel at the road/sidewalk.

Yes.  Because the entrance is set higher I moved it up to eye level of front door.

Okay-poll question.  With a concrete driveway, should there be a reflection (small subtle-not like my polished granite look above :P  ) of the house or make it more matte and rough?

Don't think that concrete has much of a reflection

I'd make it a matte finish.

I get a lot of seamless textures from this site and they have some excellent paving and concrete textures. Unless you can read Russian you have to poke around to find the ones you like. Some of them really "pop" when you crank up the "relief" slider in the texture settings.

Cheers!

Here is another good source for seamless textures. Lots of concrete samples available.

Looking good, I would add shadows, I prefer "calculate all shadows" instead of  "soft shadows".

It would be nice if you could set a default EYE LEVEL so that all the 3D views could stay at a consistent level, whilst I'm rotating the view, I always end up higher or lower, and have to try and decide where a good EYE LEVEL is for each view independently. I'd like to be able to set a plane at about 5'6" above the main floor level. that the whole model rotates about.

How would that work on a sloped lot?

I'm not really worried about the slope, as I not as much concerned about the actual "eye level" as such , but I do want to maintain a consistent viewpoint height, so that the perceived angle of the house is always the same. Again, probably not the best explanation ...
