I'm not really worried about the slope, as I not as much concerned about the actual "eye level" as such , but I do want to maintain a consistent viewpoint height, so that the perceived angle of the house is always the same. Again, probably not the best explanation ...

I haven't found the exact place to be able to adjust the setting, but there must be some sort of hard coded setting on that. The reason I suggest this is because if you go into 3D view and place the view angle close to eye level, then begin to zoom in or out, the view angle adjusts automatically to a preset height of some sort and will maintain that unless you manually adjust the camera elevation...

Often, when I zoom in, the height will change.

I think its "TERRAIN FOLLOWING" for want of a better description. So if the land slopes the viewpoint height changes, which actually is NOT what I would prefer.

I think that is what it is doing now.  In my renderings my viewport follows the terrain.  I would rather have it locked at a height and not move

Have you tried rendering in another program?  I did not like the rendering in

softplan so I have been rendering in Sketchup.  I use the V-Ray plugin but there are many free ones that are pretty good.

Here is a quick sample of one that I just did for customer.  Took me about 5 minutes to import and set it up for rendering.

If you want to see a sample, just send me a copy of a model and I can shoot you a quick rendering so you could see the difference.

I hope you don't mind me adding my project here for advice. I would be interested in any input as to how to improve this, but my biggest question is what am I doing wrong that I don't get the reflections in the windows.

If in Textured Mode, make sure that the Re icon (reflection) is active

Why is your glazing grey?  I believe it needs to be clear

Why ... ?

From outside on a light day, you CANNOT see into a dark house, and the windows may as well be mirrors. I typically, show my windows DARK NAVY BLUE or any DARK colour depending on mood - and they also are 90+% opaque. A large advantage from my point of view is that I don't need to model any of the inside of the house, which for me is MOSTLY a waste of my time.

But my question would be can you get a reflection off of a grey window or will it absorb and not reflect like "clear" glass would?

I believe that once you add the reflections it behaves exactly the same whatever colour you use ... although I haven't tried it to back up that hypothesis, so there may be subtle differences.

This is how the DARK NAVY BLUE looks with reflections added.

Doing a little testing, it does vary with colour depending on the amount of reflection that you add. The NAVY above, has 50% reflectivity.

IMO darker windows will make better reflections.
