Not sure how many people are aware of "Inkscape" on this forum, Inkscape is an open source graphic design tool.

However, it has one great feature for Softplan users. It has the ability to save a PDF as a DXF file. Now obviously this has to be a real PDF, not just a JPG in a PDF wrapper. In other words, it has to be a VECTOR graphic, not a RASTER image.

If you are on a manufacturers website and they offer their information in PDF, You can import said PDF into Inkscape and Save as a DXF file. You have to do a little cleanup and probably (Very probably!) size adjust, but it will allow you to create a Softplan symbol from a PDF. Now obviously, you don't get the 3D's with it, but it is useful for showing actual items in plan views.

You can download Inkscape from here:

https://inkscape.org/en/download/

EDIT: Removed references to DWG files. Which were wrong ...

Interesting... I am running 64-bit windows. Which files would I need to download besides the installer?

None, I believe. Just the installer should be fine.

As was pointed out to me yesterday, Inkscape doesn't save as DWG, just DXF. I've probably been using AutoCad for too long. I tend to treat DXF and DWG as almost interchangeable, However, Softplan imports DXF perfectly, so the basic premise is still sound. I have edited the original post accordingly!

In THIS thread, it was mentioned that PDF's can cause issues in Softplan, by blanking out some items in some circumstances, as they can't be SENT to front or back.

Converting them to DXF files via INKSCAPE - as above - will fix any problems that may occur.
