Hi,

Here is a work in progress. Most of the details are worked out with the client now so the real work begins... the construction plans.

He wanted to be able to close off the lower patio so I popped in a couple of 16x8 commercial style garage doors with matching fixed panels on the ends.

Cheers!

Randy, Cooktop in the Island was a first suggestion to

the homeowner that wanted nothing on the island.

Kitchen was part of this Great Room

I did a great room about the same size and setup you show.

clients wanted me to put the cooktop against the wall

near the sink also as you show.

I suggested putting the cooktop in the island facing

the great room and stools as in your rendering.

one reason is people sitting on the stools

will become your PREP station / conversation area..

and who wants to be cooking looking at a wall.

clients love the setup now with cooktop

placed on island

the island is the place to be

when parties are going on.

A lot of the builders I design for do not put the cooktop in the island.  I think it depends on the size of the island of course.  Vent hoods, if used in island located cooktops, are more expensive than a wall located cooktop.   Builders also avoid sinks in the island also.  I think the cost to do these things are the main reason, even though the cost is in a practical sense is not that much more.
