I am looking for, and/or trying to create, a solid ring....  a tube, pipe, hollow cylinder, however you want to describe it.  It almost seems that it should be in the solids library, but I can't find one.  I tried to create a hollow solid polygon, but it doesn't seem to like circles, or holes.  Any suggestions? Am I missing something obvious?

thanks.

I am not a big "create special 3d" guy.  If what you want is not in the draw-solids I think you will need to create in another program and bring in, like Sketchup.  I tried Sketchup many years ago.  There might be something that you described in the Sketchup library available for free download.  Then you can bring into Softplan.  Also, you can not cut holes in solids, that would be nice, but here again, need to  use another cad program that specializes in 3d custom shapes.

I have thought about getting Sketchup and do more 3d.  Another whole angle to Softplan.

Yes, Look in the symbol library under SHAPES ...

Sketchup will do it for you. make a circle and add a start a line in the center to make the path you want the "tube" to follow. Use the "follow me" tool to drag the circle along the length of the shape you made. Save it as a 3D model and create your Softplan symbol

you can also use a thin cylinder shape (in symbol / shapes)

and with help from "circular array, create some interesting curved pipes

of any size . (like a SNAKE shape for one)

with help from softplans "wizard" you can rotate it to lay flat or stand up.

all this takes practice but circular array comes in handy when you want

to place many of the same object like a "POST" in a circle or

part of a circle.  good for creating a circular pergola and

other garden structures.  or parts of building structures.

Listen to Randy.  Randy can make a silk purse out of sow's ear.  If there is a work around, Randy can create it.

This is a Deck Rail, .. top rail only, .. no toe rail, no spindles, ..

two pieces, .. deflection at half the length, .. creates semi-circle, .. then mirrored, .. haven't bothered to try 360° , ..

Rail depth and width adjusted as needed, .. colour or texture to suit

.. only works as a vertically standing object though, ..

EDIT, .. not that there's any practical application, .. Tim Horton's Plain

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.
