I've been pondering how to achieve this look for a client and have not come up with a workable solution.  Anybody run across this before?

I've not run across it, buy you could try fit to roof and then edit the wall heights to add 16" (or whatever) to all the multi-height segments.

Not all gable have a wall under them but I could float a wall I guess.  In fact if I did create a wall lets say 18" wide and then floated it just under the gable end  doing as you suggest that might work.  Thanks.  Carl

how about editing the gable sides of the walls that butt into the side walls to "INTERSECT"

and ADJUST the intersecting roofs .

or maybe edit the "intersecting" roofs to have a negative overhang,

or

play around with it,

the main thing is their "intersecting"  plumb (or whatever they have to choose from.
