Ron,  I think you may be referring to the note used to describe your joist layout?  If so, type your note, say, "16" I-Joist 19.2" o.c.", then under the properties for the note check the box for underline and they chose you underline type, usually the last one the funny half arrow on each end.

I'd love to be able to make that line ONLY under the last line of a multi-columns note. I never use it because all my joist notes are multiple lines and it looks ridiculous under every line

Then you have to separate your note lines.  Create the overall look you want with your note layout assuming you have multiple lines.  They explode your note, edit the last line and use the appropriate underline you want.  If you want, create all your joist layout notes that you use offen and then make a symbol out of each one.  You can also explode the symbol once created and edit to what you need if not your common joist layouts.

You could do that, but I just made a symbol for the arrow and use that. It's easier, and in my opinion looks far nicer anyway.

I agree. I will only sometimes use it mainly on my as built drawings when all I label is "2x8 @ 16 OC" and then use the joist sets on my proposed framing.
