As I've mentioned here before, my biggest problem with Softplan is the need to understand so much more about computers than I am capable of.  My latest issue is trying to send Review files.  My email is with Yahoo.  Apparently Softplan can't deal with this, and says I need a non-web based email (this is from tech support).  I guess I get this, but what is the best (simplest) way for a computer dummy like me to be able to do this?  A friend says I need to "install a program like this https://goo.gl/CmWgR6), which, when set up correctly, will then talk to Yahoo".  Not really helpful, because I have no idea what he's talking about.  I followed that link, and it looks to be a list of other free email offerings.  I really don't want a different default home page and email account.

How is this properly done?

Thanks,

Paul

Do you MS Office installed and does it have an Outlook client? You can add your Yahoo email to it and just use the Outlook client.

It could depend on the version of Office that you have, do you know which one?

I own a domain and hosting package that comes with 500 email accounts of which I use 3. You are welcome to one of them for as long as I own the domain. Then all you need is a mail client like Outlook or one of the 100's of free ones out there.

The easiest way as far as I'm concerned is to send them via WETRANSFER, You can email up to 2Gb of files in a single email - FREE

It works like this:

You create an small email to someone on wetransfer.com site - the attachments are uploaded to the Wetransfer site - Wetransfer email the recipient and tell them that there are files to download - they download the files, and Wetransfer notify you that they have been downloaded.

Where the ReView files are hosted on Softplan's cloud service you can only access them using an authorized POP/SMTP client software. That is why the Yahoo account won't work.

I do have MS Office, but do not have Outlook.

If you are using a Windows based machine, you should have Windows Mail, which is the Outlook Express substitute.

You could always use Mozilla's Thunderbird which is an email client.

WIth either one of the above, you still have to configure an email account within them and your Yahoo account should be able to be added.

Thanks for the replies.  Keith, the reason I want to use Review is that my client is a builder who also has Softplan, and he'd like the ability to mark up drawings in Review.

Tommy, your suggestion of Windows Mail sounded like a homerun, but I don't find it on my computer.

I was this close to committing to Mozilla Thunderbird last night, but read the terms, and it stated that I would agree to have this become my home page and default email.  That added layer of complexity bothered me, so I quit the download.  At this point, I think I'll just go with Mozilla and hope for the best.

Thanks again for being there!

Paul

Paul,

Windows mail may now be called mail and calendar.

If you search for that in the windows app store, it is a free download from Microsoft.

Update:  I did the Thunderbird thing, and now can send my Review files.  But........first Yayoo balked at this, and blocked my emails, supposedly because this app doesn't satisfy their security protocol.   The only way to use Thunderbird is to go into Yahoo and specifically allow apps such as Outlook, Tbird, etc.  Once that was done, it worked.  An added step, another layer of complexity, but at least I was able to retain Yahoo as my primary email (don't ask me why I would want that)

Paul
