Just started using Softplan and was wondering if anyone is using a Laser Measuring Device that will integrate with Softplan?  Via bluetooth and a smartphone app. Suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

Luke

John Honea uses one...I don't think he checks in here very often...I'll ask him if he can give some feedback.

I use a Leica.  I believe it's the 330i.  It's got Bluetooth Capability.  There's an app you install from Leica that acts as a translator.  Start that, pair the laser and then start Softplan.  Once you do that, just start drawing your rough walls and dimensions.  Select the dimension you want to change, pull the measure from the Leica, hit the send (Bluetooth) key and it sends the exact dimension into Softplan.  Then tell it which direction to move.  I use mine with my Surface Pro 3 and love it.  Makes As Built plans so much better.

How do you get the app from Leica?

Will it work with Softplan 13?

I use a Bosch laser measuring device for all my as-built measures and really like it. The best $89.00 I ever spent.

I have had it for about 5 years now and have never had any issues with it.

At the time I purchased this unit, Bluetooth was not an option, so I can't speak to that. They do make a model that has Bluetooth and that one runs about $300.

How do you set up the leica translator so it puts right format in?

I am using the Leica Disto E7500i together with Leica's App for my cellphone as it is described here. This app is less comfortable but this disto is really up to date with its camera and monitor. It is for sure the best one for bright light.

I can't speak for myself, but I've recently witnessed a plan for an entire house done to professional specs with a Leica-Disto, Surface Pro,  and Softplan. Worked like a charm and took a mere 3 Hrs

Does anyone have any experience with Laser Measuring Meters. I am looking at the Leica DISTO A3 and the Bosch DLR165K. They both seem to do the same functions but the A3 costs twice as much 300 vs. 150. Is the A3 worth the money?

I've found my Leica to be extremely accurate and durable.  In laser measuring devices I've typically found you do tend to get what you pay for.  The accuracy differences tend to be huge.  Just my personal experience.

I have the very simple Leica DISTO E7100i and I love it. It does have the Bluetooth feature. But I tried it and found it was not worth the hassle. It takes me around 1 hour to measure an entire house and sketch the dimensions on a piece of paper. When I tried using the Bluetooth for the dimensions it just took that much longer. Yes it would be nice to walk out of the measure with a done as built drawing in SoftPlan. But I rather just take measurements quickly and get out of my clients house to come back to the office and put them in. That usually takes less than an hour. So it just has not been worth it for me.

But I love how small the Leica I have is that makes it very easy to use and carry around. I have 3 of them and leave it in each car.
