System Library - Rooms

Trying to change Carpet 1 and Tile 1 textures (flooring material) in the system library so I will have consistent flooring in future drawings. Anyone know how to do this?

I was wondering the same thing about an hour ago. Always do my steps in carpet and have to manually change them everytime. System options gives me the option to change it to different stair finish but they all are defaulted to oak treads. Can't figure how to change that. Thought maybe I was overthinking it.

In 2014: I have changed all my settings .... Even set up a separate library for finishes instead of rooms. I have "Rooms" called hardwood, carpet, vinyl, ceramic and unfinished. So you can add generic finishes quickly without having to mess too much. Not at a Softplan computer now, but will see what I can do to help in the morning.

Assuming that 2016 sets up the same as 2014 ... of course.

Textures change in the 3D options not the drawing.

Basically you edit carpet 1 or tile 1 on your 3D to a texture you like. Once you have settings in a 3D changed to where you would like these as the default settings, in the 3D, click on File, Material File, Save, double click on the Default folder and select the 3d.spm file.

Personally I'd do one unit with every finish you want, (and in my case I added about 100 cubes and put different finishes to them to for tile 2, tile 3, wallcovering 17 etc.), and once you have defined everything you can think of, then overwrite the default 3d.spm file.

You may want to make a backup of the default file if you think that you may ever want to go back to it.

Same goes for stair finishes.

If you want all the options then you must define all the stair finishes as independent textures and overwrite the default files as above.

To really do a full job, go into "Edit Surface" and check the "All items" radio button at the bottom, and then edit every box to something you like - again, overwrite the default files as above.

I will back original first.
C:\SoftPlan2016\3D\Material Files\Default

From SP Tech

This should be done on a simple drawing first that does not contain any symbols or other information that isn't by default material file based.
In 3D you will need Edit>Surface Edit the tile/carpet/etc and change it to a different texture appearance.
Go to File>Material File>Save and replace the Default>3D.spm file.

............Anyone know how to do this?

So pretty much exactly what I said in the 3 posts above then. You asked the question here .... and then asked SP Tech ....

Yes sir, I did. SP tech usually has a short step by step answer. Forum answers are extremely helpful from the users perspective. I read and learn from all of them and create my own version, then save it in a "Help" folder for future reference . Thanks :)
