I was happy to see that soft plan could quickly generate a lay-in ceiling layout.  However, i am not sure how I can show lights and mech diffusers in this plan? I can draw the lights in electrical mode, make them visible in ceiling mode.  Yet it is near impossible to move the lights and have the register with the ceiling grid.  also, the lights typically "mask out" the grid, and they do not in SO/  Any suggestions?

If you make the ceiling visible while in electrical mode, you can move the symbols and you can snap to the grid.  After aligning to the grid, reduce the size of the light by 1" in depth and width to keep it off the grid.
