Was wondering if anyone can help me with why version 14 will not allow me to import dwg files? I'm doing work with an architect who sent me files in dwg format and I can't get them to import. I realize I'm working on an older version but ....? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

What exactly IS and IS NOT happening? And this is version 14 not 2014? First question to ask is what version was the dwg created in? Need more info Shawn.

Gary,

I go thru the import, dwg/dwf and select the file and it says "import failed". I do not remember/know what version of CAD he is using. I won't be able to find out until tomorrow morning at the earliest.  Yes, I'm using version 14. Thanks for trying to help me out. Greatly appreciated!

Have him send you a file saved as the DWG of R14.  That always seems to work best for me.  Or have him send you a DXF (Digital Transfer File).  That may work better (again as R14)

Thank you Tom,

I did find that the file is ACAD 14. At this point I will try the dxf as well when I get that.

Ok. DXF file opened but only a couple of lines were there. ?? The file is supposed to have his title blocks there so I can put the drawings on them. Any more suggestions?

Probably the next thing to make sure is that he is sending the file to you in model space- NOT paper space.

Also if the title block is referenced into what he sent you you will not see it.
