I have had this problem and turned in a ticket. It's a glitch that needs to be addressed sooner than later!!!!!!!!!

The band-aid fix is to use solids to simulate beams.  Need a real fix.  Chop chop!

Unconventional work around is to use a deck beam instead, and yup the offset will make you scratch your head, but the roof will not delete the section of beam.

Yes, I noticed this happening to beams. Placed a beam to serve as structural ridge. Inserted into a Chalet condition. The main roof cut the structural ridge beam projecting 90 degrees from main roof. Cut along the beam length.

It (roof plane) also cuts a beam in width. Roof planes will taper the top of a beam as it rises up under the rafters/roof plane. I was placing another structural ridge and this feature/glitch helped me determine height structural ridge beam should be at. When I dropped it enough to avoid the bottoms of the rafters the ridge beam no longer got a taper cut on upper edges.

I don't recall now if it adjusted my materials list for the beam length when it was cut along the length. Will have to run it again to be sure. But I think it did not affect beam length as set up in plan view. Think it's just a 3D glitch.

But it's on my list of things I wish they'd fix .... like we have a variable for on center spacing of studs ... but not for floor joists or roof rafters. While creating a formula for materials definition I can't be sure if drawing was at 16" 24" or some other on center spacing. That said I couldn't write a definite formula that would choose the correct width of batt insulation. So far I haven't figured out how to assess the on center spacing of floor or roof frame unless I ask a question about the spacing and capture it to use when calculating insulation.... and other things.

.... its all in the details ...

I know what you mean Joseph.....

Maybe take a look at what Jayson said above....one issue with his idea is softlist...but that would be minor at best

2018.4.7 has been released through Auto-update and includes an option to uncheck the 'Clip Beam to Roof' on the edit of a beam for cases such as this.

2018.4.7 ? I have 2018.4.5 and always had notice of an update in the past. My options are set to "Automatically Check For Updates". Is there another option? I see when clicking on Check for Updates that 2018.4.7 is available.

The point of this post was to make everyone aware of the new option to turn off the beam clipping wherever necessary as requested.

To be clear, you did not miss any updates. 2018.4.6 was strictly a SoftPlan remodel update so it did not affect Pro users.

Hi Randy.

The option to turn off the beam clipping has been added to 2018.4.7. You should have the fix if you make sure to update.

If you need any help, please be sure to contact tech support.
