Dear Softplan, I know this is not a big issue, and it should be really easy to fix, but PLEASE can you put the mortar joint UNDER the masonry, not on top of it!

Can you please clarify with an image or drawing?

Thanks Keith.

Yes, I'm talking about section details specifically. Exact masonry coursing shows the mortar at the top ... Masonry should start on a mortar joint and end without one ...

Agreed as well.  And corners always end up with mortar joints on the corner.  Very distracting, annoying and imprecise.

Since we are talking about blocks, have anyone ever noticed that the 12 inch block is an 8" and a 4" side by side? Look at the horizontal block in the 3D.  Not sure what's going on with the vertical blocks.

No. it isn't ... It's just the standard texture that wraps onto all faces. It's the same with ALL materials and textures.

So to follow up with a question and solution Keith you should be able to adjust material and change the paint patter to 150% and it will fix it?  However I guess the 16" block will then become 24"

If you change the paint pattern to 150% then the vertical coursing on ALL the faces will become 12" ....

The paint textures do not understand TOP, BOTTOM, LEFT, RIGHT or UP and DOWN. All they are, are JPG textures applied to a face. regardless of where that face is. EVERY face of a single 3D object has the texture applied.

Also depending on how the seamless JPG is designed depends on where the edges are, so as Paul stated, sometimes the joints are on the edges. I don't think that we should expect miracles from the surface applied textures, although it would be nice to be able to adjust the SEED POINT of the texture (as opposed to the actual SEED POINT of the paint), so we can control the look of the texture, especially when vertical or horizontal lines are supposed to line up and don't - As is typical with board and batten siding in gables.

Agreed on that note too Keith. We ought to have much more control over textures and patterns in the way materials work. There are so many little things within this discussion thread that would be huge improvements for modeling and rendering our projects in SP. In competing software you can select a texture and have all other textures align to that one wall/surface. In others, you can choose orientation, scale, position (seed point), etc. The rotate feature in SP is a pretty elementary feature, and often not much help.

We should be able to manipulate JPG textures in the same way we can manipulate paint lines ... SIZE %, OFFSET (Vertical & Horizontal) and ROTATE ANGLE.

Back to the original request, I logged a suggestion to start with a mortar joint on the bottom. CO-48098

That's great, but I still have an issue with mortar joints appearing on every other course on outside corners.  Any suggestions?

Paul

You would have to edit the jpg to fix that at this stage.
