I don't understand the watercolor brush size setting range- after 2 it gets so blurry, you would think it was meant to simulate bad vision. Is there some other setting that makes this usable? It seems like 2 or 3 should be the maximum setting.

I really like the line drawing over watercolor look- I've used it in other programs that have finer control and are able to get a subtler and cleaner effect (being able to add line extensions would be great too.)
It would be great if Softplan allowed greater control for this.

I think that the larger brush size makes the most sense if you are adding lines in over top to give definition to the image.

I like to play with line options, texture size, opacity, and fog to get lighter images and exaggerate features.  It really all depends on what look you are trying to achieve.

Did this on the Drawing a House sample starting with the front elevation.

Line Options: No Lines
Effects: Fog Level 32 to lighten the image
Effects: Watercolor on
Effects: Brush Size 2
Effects: Wobble on
Face Options: Opacity 85%
Face Options: Texture Scale on at 150

Line Options: Line Thickness 1
Line Options: Single Color for lines : 107/107/107
Line Options: Sketch 1
Effects: Fog Level 32 to lighten tthe image
Effects: Watercolor on
Effects: Brush Size 9
Effects: Wobble On
Face Options: Opacity:85
Face Options: Texture Scale 150

This is what I get when I use your last settings.

I can't seem to get the lines to show with the larger brush size.

Unless you're saving a separate line drawing image and combining in Photoshop or something?

Thanks John.  I like the sharing of information on how certain renderings were done.  It gives us a bit of a head start in trying to figure out which way to go

Paul.. When you are on the edit dialog that lets you control the brush size there is another tab to control line options. I think you have to turn them on as they are off by default. It should overlay the visible line look over the watercolor effect.

John, I verified my settings and rechecked it- the lines were on. Weird- I just can't seem to get the effect you show.

Also, this was on a new project.

Paul,

I recreated what you see.. I believe if in Mode Options you turn your Renderer->Anti alias off or set it to 1 you should see what I see.  Also make sure the Face Options->Enable Depth Relief is Off.

Ah- that did it.

Still than rougher than what I would want- personal preference- but at least it makes sense now and is functional.

Thanks,
