Hey Hey

Been a while since I used softplan.  Tried tutorials, but can't seem to find what I need.  I have a simple 40ft x 28ft rectangular cabin.  2nd floor loft is approximately 1/2 of length.  Trying to create a steep pitch roof over 2nd floor which would be open on first floor (where there is no loft).

1. For 2nd floor layout, do I maintain walls along "open area" or do I just add the walls where the loft shall be? If so, how do the walls along the side (hip side of roof) extend to the bottom of the roof?

Any approach strategies would be appreciate.

I'd use walls just along the walls to the loft, but split the walls on the lower floor at the edge of the loft and have the walls adjacent to the open area extend upwards until they are the same overall height as the top of the loft walls, and then use a multiple floor roof over the entire structure.

this might help picture what keith is explaining to you about

breaking/cutting the lower wall (at the right side on this illustration)

and fitting that right wall to roof  NOTE: i just cut part

of the right wall to hopefully help show what happens.

note: keith mentions editing the height of that right wall which

is one way and you can also "fit to roof" that wall that starts

at the lower floor and is cut when it hits the loft.

note: i created 2 floors with same height walls all around

the building.

i left the loft area with 2 floors of walls and one floor of walls

at the first floor where it was a 2 story clear space.

i put ledgers (used ring joist) and a beam (used a solid cube for

simplicity to act as the main beam) separating the space for the loft floor

structure.  (note:  i don't use soft list so i can fake items as needed

to keep it simple.   you don't have that option when working with softlist.

btw,  it's really just as simple using the correct items.

Okay.  Got that to work, but now I need to add a shed type roof (symmetrical) from near the ridge to each side for the loft.   Do I cut that out of the main roof?

tell me what version of softplan you used to draw the plans

put "softplan loft with shed dormers"  in "Subject Area"

also "attach"  your floor plan SPD files plus your SPP file
