When I insert a window, 54X48 with 14" transom and then the client wishes to change the window size to  58X48 with 14" transom, I cannot edit the window as required. I can go to Drawing Library and edit the opening and then delete the existing opening on the plan and insert the revised version. When this happens to many different openings...?  There must be a better way! I must be missing something.

Your help is appreciated.

As far as I know, this is the only way......and if you add a transom to another window of the same size, it automatically chooses the previous transom size with no option if you need a different height transom.

Subscribed to see if there is a better way as well.
Super frustrating.

Is this a PRODUCT, if so, uncheck product and then adjust the window. I've never had an issue adjusting the width of the unit.

If you need it to continue to be a PRODUCT, uncheck product, edit the window, and the click ADD PRODUCT CODE to create a new product.

I'm assuming you are adjusting width from 54" to 58" ...

I agree with Jason though, just because I added a 14" deep transom to one 48" x 48" window, doesn't mean that I don't want to add a 28" deep transom to the next 48" x 48" window. SOFTPLAN should ALWAYS ask for the transom depth when adding a transom, regardless of what I added to that window last time. Even If we're only confirming that a 14" transom is okay ...!

As Keith already said while I was typing my response below....  :)

When the transom is added, a new entry is added to the library as a product code which includes that transom. Have you tried unchecking the product code option, modifying the width of the window(which will maintain the transom)? Then you have the option to add it back to the library again with the transom included by selecting the 'Add Product Code' button and modify the name to reflect the new width.

With regards to Jason's comment: To clarify, you'd like us to prompt for the transom height every time one is added rather than remembering the last one drawn?

I have logged a suggestion to have it prompt each time and keep the size from the last one added in the size field. CO-48177.

You can do it a couple of ways:

You can go into the drawing library and adjust the relevant height ... which to be fair, is a little cumbersome. However, this is the only way I know of to add multiple sections to the transom if they are required, and It's quite a powerful means of making custom assemblies.

OR depending on whether you want to adjust the window or the transom ...

If it's the window ... You can add the same window, uncheck product, edit the window to make it deeper and then ADD PRODUCT CODE, then add a transom.

If it's the transom ... I'd do basically the same, uncheck product, ADD PRODUCT CODE and make it XXXXX - 2, so you have 2 versions of the same window. Then when you add the transom, it will ask you for a size again. That should keep the schedule correct.

Unchecking PRODUCT CODE, editing the window and ADD PRODUCT CODE is by far the quickest way to build up a comprehensive window library.

That would be my preference too.

Thanks to all of you for your help. The ADD PRODUCT CODE thing works to build up your library but you could add a lot of unique openings you will never use again.

Thank you

Here's how I do it. I go into Drawing Options and make the necessary changes to the window. Next I go back to the drawing and edit that same window. If you uncheck the box for  "Product Code" and then recheck it again, it will force SoftPlan to update the opening to the new specs you entered while in the Drawing Library and change the window to match in your drawing. You can watch the change occur in the 3d preview window of the Opening edit dialog box. There are so many variations of windows and transoms, etc. that I don't worry about creating new product codes for each new combination.  This technique works for any changes you make in Drawing Options  to an opening.

I almost NEVER use transoms in softplan because of how cumbersome it is to make changes later.  I always draw two separate windows and stack them on top of each other.  Little more time consuming up front but much easier when I need to make changes later.

Great suggestions.  I too would prefer to be able to add a new transom on top as a different size everytime.  It would save from having to create so many "product" windows.  Of course those can be re-used... but at times it's just faster to hit the transom button and start adjusting a transom height until I have the look I want.

I have to agree with that ... I have a library called custom where I put all these items. However, they are typically "one off" items. Is there a way that these custom windows can be added to the drawing library NOT the system library. OR better still, it would be nice if we could choose to add them to either library.
