my 7 year old grand-daughter is into designing "Simple" buildings using a very simple $5 app on her iPad.

note:  she gets a little frustrated because it's very limited to what she can do with the walls, windows, doors, etc.

note 2:   she watches me working with softplan.

parents are buying her a "surface pro 4" OR Above. what number should they buy her ?

what would be a good beginner/intermediate architectural cad program for her ?

note 3:  Both parents have always used Apple products

michaela picks things up fairly fast.

My 8 year old spends about an hour a day in my office.  He loves watching, and is often designing his own homes via grid paper or Etch-a-Sketch..  I am interested to hear if you find a good program.

Sketchup which is FREE, can be learnt quickly for at least the basics, Will probably be around for a long time , and can be upgraded to PRO if necessary.

A couple of others which are inexpensive but might be fun are Ashampoo 3D CAD Architecture 6 or Ashampoo Home Designer Pro 4 ... Although the ASHAMPOO items are only windows based. Although Parallels may work for windows emulation.

Sketchup would be my choice too. And with the Sketchup Warehouse she will have access to countless objects to dress up her designs.
