Im Having a hard time making white brick look good.

I am using the brick called "white brick".  This looks yellow even after adjusting the ambient and diffuse.

So i have checked the box for "display color" and i obviously selected white.

Ive had to turn the sun brightness to one or two.

Anyone with tips or tricks on white brick?  Thanks.

What colour mortar do you want with it? I'll try and change it for you.

If you select 'Show Color' we will show the brick in a uniform color so the black mortar joins should not show. We utilize the texture as a heightmap.

Make sure that you uncheck the 'Auto match to Texture' option since that will average the colors of the texture selected. Then select a white that you want to use using the dropper or access the color pallette.

Is this closer to what you are looking for? Alternatively the texture can be manipulated elsewhere or a new texture can be sourced.

To make that work you have to have ENABLE DEPTH RELIEF enabled in MODE OPTIONS > FACE OPTIONS (I think!)

You could try this one ...

Keith, maybe you can tell me how to make custom shutters....for this go around i am fine.   but you'll see the difference in the shutters.  I need mine to look more like the existing house pic..

I'm not sure how you created the shutters that you have. There are some standard quadrant top shutters in the library that finish at the top of the windows. You can easily draw them and add them to the standard library, but the challenge then becomes creating a valid 3D model to link them too.

The one's that I was looking at was the louvred roundtop, which is the one you have used. Try checking the "Adjust height to cover opening" and see how that works.

The whole "secret" in my opinion is being able to create a reasonably close facsimile of what you need in 3D. Softplan's 3D tools are not great but generally they do give you enough to create whatever you need - albeit sometimes a little tortuously.

If you draw a shutter with a round top in Plan view, to suit exactly what you want, and then adapt the principles shown in this post ... http://softplan.com/...ediment/?p=4538 ... to create a valid 3D model, you should be able to create what you need.

If you need me to do a tutorial, that may be possible too ... I haven't done one for quite a while ...

Keith, i was looking at filter forge...looks nice.   You recommend purchasing?  Is it pretty easy to learn?

Do I recommend purchasing ... Err ... Yes. I managed to get my copy as a giveaway, which is available very occasionally. If I see it given away, normally I post a notice in this forum. But, If I had spare money (and didn't already have a copy) then, yes, it's one of the programs that I would buy. Having said that I occasionally do some graphic design for fun, and It works with my graphic program too, so it may have more value to me than others.

Is it easy to learn? Depends on what you do with it.

If you want to manipulate existing filters, then yes, it's very easy to work, you're just changing parameters that someone else has programmed ... in the picture below ALL the colours can be changed, bonds varied etc. etc.

If you want to design a filter from scratch, then it can get quite (sometimes VERY VERY) complicated.

NOTE: There are NO shapes in this filter, everything is created with the node editor ...

I've only developed one filter, and it was a relatively simple one. Typically, I manipulate previously constructed filters.

I was working with an interior decorator today and she said over and over...i need more choices and higher quality textures.  Normally, i am only really concerned with exterior rendings but when you go inside thats where i need higher quality tile, hardwood, cabinet wood colors, carr siding, and so on.. So its funny that you mentioned filter forge.  I need higher quality textures to use inside of SP and not have to lean on other programs
