What is the best way to draw a boxed out window.  I have been drawing for over 10 years and have never had a boxed out window requested.  It this application it is going in a gable end wall.  not sure what I am going to put over the top yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff

Use walls to create the box, and adjust the heights accordingly. I personally would use a solid for the sills, but that depends on whether you use Softlist or not.

for down and dirty

you also have "bay/bow" windows in openings

pick a "bay" close to size you need.

place it in the wall.

it'll have angled sides,

EDIT the opening and go to DISPLAY tab

check "door swing"  and put in 90.

it's square off the corners of the bay

to give it a BOX look.

you can fill in the bottom (which is open)

with a solid cube or 3d polygon.

btw,  you could also extend the floor system

to help support the box window.

for a quick roof.  go to "symbols" / bay

you'll have an option to pick the size

and also can pick the seat if you need one

in your box bay.

as keith mentions, using walls take a little longer

but more authentic since you can put in operable

openings.  have some wall at the bottom,

etc, etc, etc,

for the roof you can go to roof mode and draw a roof

just like you would atop any bearing walls.

probably want to use smaller framing members

for the roof.

how about creating a box window out of walls, openings, roof

and anything else you might need for your design

and than export it (just the box window components)

and save it as a 3d symbol for future use on future projects.

while your at it,  save a few different sizes.
