Since last week, my Softplan 2014 has crashed a few times with a "Fatal error". Last week, it happened a couple of times but I taught it was because I had Softplan opened twice to be able to refer to 2 different plans which I've done in the past with no problems (sometime works better than opening a plan inside another plan). But today, it happened again and I only had one plan opened.

Yvon....

Click on windows "start" and type in "event viewer" (without quotation marks")..click on Event Viewer / Log and let it fill up the logs on screen...which may take a minute or more.  There will be a "Summary of Administrative Events" that should head up the first set of logs that pulls up under "Overview and Summary."

The top lines of that log will give you a listing of critical events that you can click on to get the error information to search out what the problems may be that are causing anything in your system to fault.  I'd be certain of any conflicts or systems updates that need to be addressed which the event logs (and their derivatives) can lead you towards....are squared away.

If you've got Systems Update on your o/s....give that a go for it to locate and bring drivers up to date.

Good luck!

Please contact support.  They can take a look at the logs files and often tell you what is causing the issue.

I was just wondering how long were you using v2014 before this started happening? Have you loaded something new in the last week that might be the conflict?

I know this isn't much help, I'm not a techie !

2 years and haven't loaded anything new beside standard Windows updates. Seems to be stable this morning.

I have this "fatal error" thing happen on a pretty regular basis. Sometimes it is just when I am closing a project and it is trying to save it to the SP+ cloud. Sometimes it happens when I have opened and closed 3D views multiple times, or have worked on large drawing files that are very complex. I have just chalked it up to a quirk to deal with when pushing the program to the limits.

Mine was doing that last week, I felt like wiggling the usb connections ended up fixing it.   Also there was an updated. If you haven't done an update for 2 years, then you need to, probably.   Easy to do.

This week tho the program is kickin it.     This happen before on my system where I think the USB cords needed unplugged and plugged back in.

Last week I also had an experience to where I had a Maxtor drive [plugged to9 the computer and the screens wouldn';t light up because the windows program was trying to open the Maxtor as the main drives, I unplugged the Maxtor and it fixed it.  Weird science.

This is the answer that I received from Softplan;

"SoftPlan is not compatible with that type of video card (Quadro cards). SoftPlan requires a gaming video card, rather than a workstation video card. "

Is everybody using gaming video cards? Our tech support finds this strange and I don't understand that I've had this system since mid 2013 with no problems until now

The software should not care what kind of video card you use (workstation vs gaming). They all work with OpenGL or DirectX (I think SoftPlan requires DirectX on install). Quadro cards have additional driver support that is optimized for certain software. They have some other hardware differences that make them better suited for CAD/3D, and they apparently aren't made (or perform well) for games. For SoftPlan, there really is no gain to spend money on a workstation card. However, I can't imagine having one would hurt.

If you have just been getting these errors recently, I would suggest that your video card isn't the problem. Take the power house to the computer and make sure it's all cleaned up and updated. Even crack the box open to check for dust. I've had dusty hardware cause me issues in the past (overheating).

It's probably the driver for the card that changed.

I think it's finally solved. Looks like the last driver update of the NVIDIA done by the automatic updates thru Dell wasn't done correctly or completely for some reason. Installing directly from the NVIDIA site seems to have solved the problem. Thank God.
