What does it mean when the drawing name is in italics? I have been having all sorts of trouble lately and it often seems to stem from that fact.

I am also currently having trouble with a project where I can actually work on the project but if I open win explorer the folder is empty and if I try to save as there is nothing in the folder either

It means that the drawing is from a different directory/folder, and YES that may well be the source of all your issues.

Is there a way (in SP) to tell where the file is located?

I copied the project to a new project and all seems to be working. Very strange.

Now I know what italics means. What does the asterisk mean?

As far as I'm aware the asterisk means that the drawing has been modified from the saved version.

Yes, if you hover over the drawing tab, it will show the full path of the drawing.

What does the asterisk mean?

It also means that the modified drawing has not been saved, .. Save the Drawing and the asterisk disappears.

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.

Careful about copying projects to others in Windows Explorer. NEVER DO IT.  It will mess you up.  It has to do with how projects are coded.  Even though you think you are working in a certain project the changes may affect the one you copied it from. I found this out the hard way a few years ago.

What about coping the whole folder to a back up drive like I have been doing with every project.  Am I going to have problems if I ever have to use the backup copy?

If you are using the back up as a reference for a revision it is possible.  Best to use the save revision command under file. It will create a copy in a separate folder for you to refer too.  If you are needing go to back up because original was accidentally deleted or corrupted you should not have any problem

I have seen it happen - a long time ago though ... Somehow the drawings seem to be linked ... As far as I can remember editing one seemed to edit BOTH.

That is exactly what happened to me Keith.  Ever since it happened to me back in v2012 or 2014 I learned my lesson.  You are luck Gary, maybe it is better now.  I just dont take chances.

I have copied hundreds of projects without any issue. I believe the key is to delete the project file (file extension .SPP)  from the copied project folder. After you delete it a new project file will be created the next time you open the project in SoftPlan I have done this and never had a problem. I believe this file holds all the associated links to the old project.

That is a good observation Phillip.  Thinking about it I bet I did not know better back then and did not delete the .SPP file.  That very well may have been my problem
