I am trying to create a new shutter type and create a 3D symbol for it. I found a DWG file along with what they say are BIM files for one at Fypon. However when I copy and create a new shutter I go in and look for the appropriate DWG file where I saved it but it does not show in the preview or in the shutter. It is just blank. Where am I messing up?

You're not messing up ... as far as I remember (unless FYPON have changed all their files), ALL the FYPON drawings are only 2D.

If you want to post a link to the relevant shutter ... or a picture and size of what you want exactly, I'll show you how to make a 3D.

I think in those instructions, Softplan are assuming that you link to an existing 3D symbol. I was offering to show Tom how to build a new 3D symbol to link too.

Well it certainly looks like it's a real 3D file ... Let me do so investigation.

Well, the CAD dwg file that is downloadable is only 2D. If you open it in a CAD program it's quite obvious. Try Just importing the .dwg file into a blank Softplan drawing and have a look.
The RFA file is (as far as I can ascertain) a 3D AutoCAD Revit file, but I don't have any tools to manipulate Revit files, nor can Softplan use them directly.

Thanks Keith, so I will still need to find a suitable 3D shutter to link the symbol too. I looked at Sketch up warehouse but didn't see any. This is where I wish I was better at creating some

Now I am more confused. Even though I do not have a 3D model that I can link to the arched shutter when I changed it shows as such. It came in as white but that was simple to fix. I just dont understand this thing. My god I must be getting old.

Maybe it's the same as an opening ... create and elevation and a plan and Softplan generates the 3D itself.

If you have a licenced copy of Sketchup you would be able to import the 2D DWG drawing into it and make your own 3D model. Or just start from scratch in Sketchup. It is pretty easy to "carve" out a model.

The round top shutters are VERY simple to construct in Softplan with 3D solids.

I dont have a licensed copy of Sketchup. Hard enough finding time to figure out my Softplan issues Martin :-)
You are correct Keith. I need to keep my thinking more simple and create one in Softplan.
