I am doing a presentation for a friend who has land that is situated between two existing residences. The city requires that various views of the proposed residence be provided from the street, from the proposed residence looking out onto the street, from the existing residences backyards looking at the proposed residence. I have taken photos of the area from these vantage points with the intent of using each photo as a background image for each of the views required.

My issue is with scaling of the background image or the rendered drawing. Secondly, how do I remove parts of the rendered drawing to place it behind the  existing residences properly?

The background image can be adjusted as necessary with adjust. If you draw approximately the size you need with a box and adjust the background to fill it, and then delete the box.

Images are always behind the drawn items. To remove parts of the render, copy it and then block cut and edit the lines and paint as necessary to fill the space between the existing buildings.

Thanks Keith. However, I don't understand how you can use the adjust command with a background image. I went through the edit tool bar while in the 3D Textured mode and the adjust command is not there. It is available under the Move toolbar but it only works on the rendering that is shown not on the background image. My background images are jpeg files would that make a difference? If it doesn't make a difference, then I am totally lost.

Sorry Wayne, I didn't think you were using a 2D JPG behind a 3D model. I understood from the original post that everything was going to be in 2D. You can adjust the background image in a Softplan 2D elevation drawing. If your trying to add a Photo JPG background to a rotateable 3D image, then you are going to have some major issues.

I have done what I believe you are asking. Now my site was quite a bit bigger, however where I stood to take the background photo, is where I put the camera in softview. It worked very well with very little adjustment. Mainly just raising and lowering.

When I woke up this morning, I had a revelation as to what Keith was referring to and lord and behold, Todd did exactly what I was trying to do. Great job Todd. I was frustrated last night and nothing seem to work right and this morning I had a better understanding what I needed to do. It didn't resolve my immediate problem, but Todd showed that it was the position of where the photo was taken that is important. In my photos, I was too close to where the image had to be placed. Thanks again Todd and Keith.

Hey Guys i realize this is an old topic, however its the most relevant i'm finding to my problem, yet doesn't quite answer my question. I am trying to use a 2d JPEG of an existing house, and just add on a front porch instead of redrawing the whole house. I imported the image and have the porch with dimensions it should be in front of it. however the background is not nearly to scale. how can i scale the background picture? i have it in front elevetion tab. softplan 2018

There might be a better way but you could draw a plane and make it the correct size. Then use the scaled picture as the texture for the plane.
