When calling for the gable end to be provided by roof.. How do I only put the shakes in the very top of the gable? (not the entire fit to roof gable end)
Gable End Shakes

I've done it in the past with banding and a VERY carefully positioned roof plane.
You could also use a triangle solid "window" - just draw a isosceles triangle and save as a custom window or even a custom vent. Since there's no frame or anything to worry about, it can be sized however you want - and put it in as a vent at the top of the wall, and texture it however you want. NOTE: I haven't tried this so I'm only guessing it should work.

Thanks guys. Thats exactly what I did Keith. As often as I have to put shakes at the top of the gables. I built a library of different pitch gable tops that I can call out different textures on. Soft plan needs to put a shake option at the top of the gables with the option of setting the size. Still better than whats ever in second place..(I had to use that one) Thanks again

Just tried this out ...
If you build a SOLID TRIANGLE WINDOW (i.e just a triangle) save as an ELEVATION OPENING, create as a OPENING, and then used as a vent. Add a small band and it works brilliantly - even if I do say so myself!

Didn't think about the auto slope ... In fact, I've never used it - and am not even sure if auto slope is an option, as it can't be edited to auto slope. However, one opening works fine anyway, as invariably you have to uncheck product code to adjust the depth, and adjusting both width and depth, makes it work perfectly for any pitch.

the regular triangular window works fast and easy.
tips:
use the Right Click and pick "adjust"
and adjust it as needed into place.
no messing with dimensions,
for the texture, pick what you want from the textures menu
and make sure you put the "opacity" up to 100.
reason is your using the "glazing" to put the texture on
and it's usually set to see thru. @ 100, "no see thru"

the RED diamond shapes at sides of the triangular window
are what you use to adjust size to fit the area > very easy
