I am a little green with formulas. I did a simple formula to add 4' on each side of a wall corner when I am sheathing the walls with 1.5" rigid insulation.

Can anyone tell me why this material setup for Wall Sheathing (1/2" OSB) won't calculate the 8 sheets required?

1. You do not have .5" osb in your wall definition

2. You are trying to have softlist report on 1.5"

3. Use wall area - 64sf (2-4x8 sheets) / 32 to get the get correct . 5" usb sheet count

4. Corners do not work as you think.  Run a test on wall corners and see what shows

Martin,

Rod is right. The Corners are not the way to go in the formula. Just choose the "Outside" option for the length and you should get close to the correct quantity. Also you might want to consider using the material "Rigid Insulation" in your wall def. It will be less confusing for anyone who comes into your setup.

I think I have things figured out. I will need to create a cumulative material and dump the results into my Wall Sheathing(1/2" OSB).

Judging from the responses to my post I don't think I explained what I was trying to achieve very well and I apologize. We are building a product where the walls are sheathed using 1-1/2" EPS rigid foam. The first 4' of the wall measured from all outside corners are sheathed with 1/2" OSB and 1" EPS rigid foam to provide racking support. The rest of the walls are braced with metal wind bracing. I am drawing the walls with one wall definitions showing the 1-1/2" foam and I want the software to remove the proper amount of 1-1/2" foam and add the correct amount of 1/2" OSB and 1" EPS.

The outside_corner system variable is the correct one to use but I was approaching it with the concept that I was dealing with two sides of a corner rather than one or two ends of a wall segment. I have to remember that the software is assembling the materials one wall segment at a time. I figured this out by looking at the prepackaged formula for outside siding corners.

When I get this finalized and working I will upload the results.

Thanks for everybody's input.

It looks to me like you are multiplying each corner by 4

when you actually want to multiply by 8

This problem has been semi-resolved. The variable I was using was dependent on corner boards being applied to the wall ends. I am trying to come up with another way to do it short of a manual calculation for each project. Now in the process of creating all of my window libraries. I have a deadline of March 1st to have Softplan up and running.
