Weii, it's me again with more questions.  I have been using SoftPlan for years but all I did was draw floor plans.  I was building houses and all I needed for a permit was a site plan, which I could draw on the permit application.  Never needed to draw roof, elevations or wall details.  I had the same framer for years and I would simply tell him to do a roof like Lot 17 or put a gable on the garage and hip on the rest of the house. Now I am doing a plan for a friend and he needs elevations and a wall detail in addition to site plans and floor plans.

It's two stories and I have generated the elevations.  But I can't figure out to label then. I cant add notes to the elevation drawings.  Will SoftPlan generate wall details or do I need to create a wall section.  But when I do that I cannot add detail notes.   I assume I am missing a step or two but I can't figure out where.

I am using 2014.

Thanks for any help.

You need to save the 3D "elevation" as a Softplan drawing which will create a line drawing you can edit and markup. Go to "Save/Save As".

Martn, thanks a lot.  Thay worked great.  I have a SoftPlan user guide that's 982 pages long.  No where is that one simple sentence you wrote.  You would think it could have been added somewhere like elevations or notes.  Thanks again.

Jack,

From page 511 of the SoftPlan 2014 manual ( Chapter 7 Creating Elevation Drawings - Lesson 1 Generating Elevations );

Saving an Elevation

You can save the elevation you generated either as a SoftPlan drawing, a bitmap image, or a JPEG image.

Note:

·    An elevation saved as a SoftPlan drawing becomes a drawing that can be edited. To learn how to edit the saved elevation, see Lesson 2 Opening and Editing a Saved Elevation in this chapter..

·    You can generate a bitmap or a JPEG image of an elevation when high-quality printouts are needed. To learn how to open an elevation that has been saved as a bitmap or JPEG image, see Lesson 2 Opening and Editing a Saved Elevation in this chapter.

To Save an Elevation View

1.   While the elevation is displayed in a tab, select File ® Save ® Save As. The Save As menu opens.

2.   Choose the folder where you want to store the elevation.

3.   From the Save as type: field, choose the file format you want to use. (i.e. SoftPlan Drawing, Bitmap, JPEG, and 3D View File)

4.   In the File name field, enter a name for the new drawing.

5.   Press the Save button. The saved elevation view can be quickly accessed from the Elevations ® Drawings section of the Navigation Window.

Hope this helps.

Harald, thanks for pointing this out.  I read this page while trying to figure out how to add notes to an elevation.  This page explains how to edit a saved elevation. " An elevation saved as a SoftPlan drawing becomes a drawing that can be edited".  However, I wanted to add a note to the elevation, like Front View.  I have been using SpftPlan since 1988 (Version 4.7 I Believe) and not once can remember hitting the Edit button when I needed to add notes to a drawing.  Anyway, now I know.

I think EDITED in this context really means changed, rather than the generated item. You don't need to actually hit the edit button to add a note.
