Anyone have advice on sheathing a conical roof with luan (lauan)?  Is there a calculator we could use to help us?  Im building a traffic cone that is 7' diameter at base and tapers up 17'-9" +- to 2' diameter.

Could use strips but then would look segmented. Would prefer flat stock.

Thanks.

Rather than lauan, I would recommend flexible plywood: https://www.columbia...nding-plywood/ Lauan is too rigid.  I'm not sure as to what you mean by needing a calculator?

If I were building it, I would break it into 3 vertical sections that stack on top of each other. Each section becomes manageable at approx. 6 ft tall.
I would build each section with 2x's standing on end vertically. You will have to bevel / taper each side of the 2x on a table saw, but once you calculate the angle and bevel each one needs to be cut at, it would be a piece of cake.

Calculator - this may be something like what you are looking for. I just googled "calculator to determine angle and bevel of a cone"
