How do I make a line thicker? Everything I draw looks like it comes out in the same lineweight.

You define your pen settings in the System, Project and/or Drawing Options under Pen Setup as well as associating your layers to specific pens. On screen, your different pen settings will not be visible unless you check the box for Display Print Pen Style in the Visible Items

If you EVER print in colour, then you might want to set some pens up as a colour, rather than black - It makes adding RED or WHITE (for example) items easier to control. I suspect that Doug only ever prints in black and white. On the other hand our office ONLY prints in colour.

another way, which I use for grade lines on elevations, is to change the individual line width. Then you can just adjust the line fill type to solid
