I need to get a laptop without breaking the bank. Doesn't need to do renderings but has to have the strength to handle the rest of Softplan and other programs. Probably a 15" size would be fine. Recommendations anyone? Thanks.

I have been happy with my Surface Pro 3.  They have newer ones but works great and does do renderings (textured and under quickly if needed)

Tom, Do you use a docking station with your Surface? My issue, I think, would be the small screen. Does it work for you ok?

That is one of the reason that I do like it.  I can hook it up easily to a monitor or television if in a hotel via a docking port from dell.  The screen size isnt bad.  At first it takes getting used to since I'm going from 2-27" to the one surface but as long as I am just doing drawings its good.  I really got used to it as I was in San Antonio last year during my parade home show for 10 days and worked like a charm.  I think Sam also has one that he uses in the field for as-built drawing.

So you use a docking station from Dell vs. Microsoft?

Yes.  Only reason is I had it left over from an old Dell laptop I had.  Either works just so you have inputs for hdmi and usb.
