I have 2 questions when framing a roof with trusses;

  1. Hip sets seem to be only for rafters. Is there a way to do it for trusses without having to draw individually?
  2. How do you draw a set of valley trusses (trusses sitting on main trusses) without having to draw individually?

I draw all complicated (or when accuracy is needed) roof framing in SketchUp and then import it as a symbol. SP does not do a good job when it comes to framing at different levels and sizes within one roof structure. And, the lack of proper orientation of certain framing members makes it look horrible if showing any builder or client anything up close.

It would take me longer to do the roof in Sketchup than it does to do the whole house in Softplan!

But, at least it would be framed correctly. And, you can get all sorts of details in there if you want. I have a few plugins that help speed up the process, but I use SoftPlan more than SketchUp, so I still am not as quick as I ought to be.
