I have drawn 2 solids.  I use the group box command to join them.  In drawing mode, with GROUP selected, I can move 1 piece of the group, and it moves both as a group.  In my 3d textured mode, with GROUP selected, if I move one piece it moves away from the group.  Am I doing something wrong or do groups not function in 3d?

Thanks,

Dave

The Group command works for me in the 3D window ... stupid question, but you ARE clicking on GROUP in the 3D window too aren't you?

Yes, I do.  My group is just 2 solids, forming a cross shape I needed to move to the top of a cupola.  It was easy enough to do separately.

I will try it again in a new project and see if it works...

OK, I'm sure I'm just missing something, but...

Attached are two screenshots.  in the drawing mode, if I move either piece of the two solids, they move together.

In the 3d view, they move separately.

group is on in both modes.

New project, with just these two items in the drawing.

I grouped the items in the drawing mode.  Do I need to group them again in 3d mode?

Thanks,

Dave

Maybe they aren't grouped together? Grouping sometimes is a little touchy if your box isn't large enough. Maybe they move in drawing mode because they are close together and you have Attach activate?

I turn Attach off and they still move together in drawing mode.  I have just realized if I move either part up or down in 3D, they move separately.  If I move either part side to side in 3D, they move together.

Now I'm more confused than when I started this ...

I don't use the group command to much because I hate how it works and knowing what is grouped. I tested it on a existing plan and sometime it would work, other times it would affect the entire plan. To make sure, I had to do an Ungroup around the entire plan and then group the 2 solids. At least in my case as for you, the grouping works for movement on the X and Y axis but not the Z axis. I think the function is designed presently to work only on the X and Y.

Like Yvon, I suspect that the GROUP only works in X and Y axis. Softplan really doesn't use the Z axis for anything it only understands offset from a plane. I have to admit I didn't test it moving in the Z axis.

Does anyone have a work around if you have several solids you need to move together consistently?

You could create a symbol with them if their positioning in relation to each and sizes remain the same
