When try to dimension or auto dimension my drawing, i cannot get the extension lines to place themselves at the outside of the stud.  They are always placed at the inside of the stud or the outside of brick veneer.  I have tries all the extension line and dimension options on the drawing, project and system level but it never changes.

Set the surface for extensions in the wall definition.

As Henry stated if the wall definition defines the extension or dimension placement they take precedence. You can change them ALL to NONE and then the dimension options should work as you want ... there are benefits and drawbacks to both methods. All my walls have the dimension and extension placement defined, but Ii have changed them on some walls at drawing level only.
