OK I need some help from my fellow SoftPlan users.

I make a timber truss using beams and it shows up in my 3D but not in my cross section.

What am I missing?

Did you make it into a symbol? If you did, there are check boxes in the symbol definition for "extract in section" and "extract in elevation".

Is the beam made of a material that is set to be visible while in section view? If you look at your beam definition, then look at materials while in SV you may find it is unchecked for some reason.

If it's there in 3D but not in section it probably means that teh objects you created it out of are visible in 3D and not in section. When you first create teh section, click on Options in the menu across the top and then click on Extraction Options in the ribbon bar. When the menu pops up , click on Extract All and see if the timber truss appears.

We use beams  to create the Timber Framing members which have been easy to

use given they are editable in 2D as well as 3D. We have not had an issue of the

beams not showing in a cross section.

Could be the cross section line location or the include background box not checked

when generating the cross section .spd

Steve and Carla,

am curious as to what you use for your vertical columns. A vertical beam or a Post?
