When I merge an edited elevation with an existing elevation there are lots of lines to clean up.  Is there a way to have the lines that were added to the existing drawing show up in a different color?

When it's a complicated drawing it's easy to miss some of the lines that need to be eliminated.

I would assign the added drawing a layer with a different color before merging.
