I have over 14,000 .sur files in my company projects "parent" folder.  They are all very tiny, and I think they are mostly generated with projects that I do renderings.  what are they, and can they be deleted?  they slow down my back up software quite a bit...

Thanks,

Dave

Quite a few looks at this, but no answer.  Thought I'd just refresh the question and cross my fingers...

Did you send the question to Softplan support?

Thanks for the idea, Yvon.  I just did that.  I assumed that support was for specific issues with a project since a project needs to be open, but that was probably wrong on my part.  I'll post the response when ot comes.

We use some .SUR files in the SoftView Cache folder. These files are used to speed up the generation of 3D, elevation and section views. You can remove these files if you'd like, but they will be automatically generated again as you work in your project.

Sounds like it might be a good idea to clean them out once in a while.

Below is the balance of the response from Colin:

So if I delete them on completed projects I will not lose anything if I need to go back into it at a later date, they will just regenerate?

Exactly. All of the texture settings are saved in the project file (.spp). The .sur files are only for generating 3D views quicker.

Thanks again, Colin!

Thanks for the info.

I did a search on my computer and I had over 87,000 .sur files taking up 2 gig of space. WOW!

Mike, did you delete them and if so, what was the result.  I may do the same.

I deleted them all. I have them all backed up just in case I need them. But for now, no issues.
