This is more of a computer question rather than a SoftPlan question.

So obviously SoftPlan uses the function keys F11 and F12 for snaps and locks.

Well I just recently bought a new computer from HP and their keyboard as many others I have had before have the dual use for the function keys up at the top of the keyboard. In this computer, the default is for the media type use of changing sound level and screen brightness by default instead of the F11 or F12. So in order to use F11 or F12 you need to hold down the Fn key.

So like other computers I have had, I went into both the keyboard options in Windows to try and change and also in BIOS to try and reverse that function but there is nothing there.

Has anyone else had this situation arise and where have you found the setting?

Brian,

I have an HP laptop that has the same issue.  It is a bios thing.   I don't have that computer in front of my right now, but let me see if I can get this down from memory.

When you reboot the computer, press F10 (I believe) to get into the bios/startup menu.  It looks like an old DOS screen.  Scroll horizontally to functions.   There will be an option to enable the function keys.  If it says 'ON', turn it off.  Or vise versa.   Then exit out of that menu and save your changes.   Next time you go in to SP things should be back to normal.     Unfortunately every time Windows has a major update you will have to do this.

I'll double check these steps tomorrow once I get into the office.

Neil

Quite often there's a lock icon on the ESC key ... so FN & ESC ...

Have a look at this "HOW TO GEEK" article:

https://www.howtogee...r-special-keys/

It may give you the information that you need ...

I just bought an Evoluent keyboard, it enables the Functions keys at all times w/o pressing ESC or FN. I did change  Settings in my Mac to initially allow the use of the Function Keys.

In the row above the F keys, there are 4 keys that are programable and others that by default control media and volume, etc.

The first 4 keys are by default set as CTRL+Z zoom, CTRL+X zoom previous, CTRL+C cleanup, and CTRL +V quick 3d.

I am still trying to change the other media keys to CTRL + functions for SP.
