This may be really simple and I have just been overlooking something in settings (hopefully) but is it not possible to have the handrail and toerail extend to the column (or an adjacent wall) in the image shown?  I run into this on porch railings between columns.  When I turn off the end posts, I always have to fudge the railings to have them look like they touch the columns.  Was thinking about manipulating the end posts to look like a spindle...but that seems like extra steps.....

Thanks for any advice!

I think the columns have a small top and bottom cap that are wider than the column and that is what the rails are stopping at.

You could always define a railing whose end posts are columns, and put them all in together.

Softplan needs a way to extend rails for situations like this (encounter it all the time) or at the end of deck stairs

We need more control on stairs.  Need the ability to reference a tread and the railing stays there no matter what until you change it.  You can have everything drawn correct and then it references something unintended.

In these scenarios, I will often use a solid cube for the columns and then turn off the end posts on the railing.  You can then extend the railing "into" the column if needed to get the desired effect.

yes but the solid cube only works for plans, not 3D, elevation generation or material list.

Thanks for the input guys.  Sounds like it's not just me!   Seems like there should be a option to have the railings extend the same dimension of the the end post width, when post is turned off, and re-space orr add spindles as needed.  Oh well, guess I'll just keep tweaking these to have them look fairly accurate.
