swimming pools - how to draw in softplan

part one:  tease them with a softplan rendering /

note: renderings are getting easier with each new version.

now i have to come up with a pool design and how

i'll set up the step-by-step tutorial.

tip 1: you can create "reflections"  (how-too will come later)

sorry for all the 3d models but can't help it.

because it's just too much fun and i need

a reason to use them since i've spent a whole

lot of time exporting them out of sketchup

and using the symbols wizard to make

them useable in softplan.

i have over 2 gigs of 3d symbols.

Looks great Randy.  I'm looking forward to the jet making a reappearance again.  Seems i can remember it sticking out of the side of a house a few times. :)

Randy, ..

I'm interested in seeing if we're looking at 'pools' the same way, .. building them that is,,..
Here's a pool that I've done up.

Rats, .. I'll have to attach it in the morning, .. somehow my jpg got corrupted.

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.

Apparently, we cannot attach a file to a private message, .. so I'll have to post it here

My pool is created with two square 'c' polygons (mirrored) whose height creates the pool depth, ..

Other solids and textures added to personal taste. Ladder is 3D warehouse.

.. invariably, someone will have a simpler solution.

Both of those pool designs look great guys. So did the one that Tommy Davis did in his recent walkthrough animation.

here's a simplified version of how i draw 3d pools

with / solid / 3d polygons

(the neat thing you can do with a solid 3d polygon that

you can't do with a cube is you can curve (deflection)

the side of a 3d polygon but you can curve the side

of a cube.

pictures are worth a thousand words and i'm tired of typing.

if you need answers > ask the questions and someone

will answer them.

there are NO stupid questions, just stupid people

who don't ask questions.

remember the 3 P's /  Practice / Practice / Practice.\

note: used the "3d text" for notes that you see in the 3d image

of the parts.

notice the note and arrow pointing to the gap >

it's what we call the "in-out method" so you can

have a hole in a solid,  you ADJUST the gap together.

NOTE:
also notice the curves at the corners.

you can curve (tool/curved fillit) the

inside and outside of a corner just

like the parts of the pool have.

btw,

the trees i'm showing are in / symbols / trees high surface count

some trees were in previous versions, a few are new in v2016.

oops, i missed a few more, i was in the softplan + folder,

many more in the regular high surface county folder.

we refer to this as the "in-out method" when drawing solid 3d polygons.

notice the gap in the pools "terrace",  that's where you go in or out

from the inside if you started drawing around the pool coping before you

finish drawing the polygon COMPLETELY around the inside

and than go out to the outside edge of the pool terrace and than go

around the outside of the pool terrace and than go back "IN" to

connect with where you started drawing the inside of the pool terrace.

than to CLOSE the polygon where you went in & out, you right click

on one of the straight lines (at the in-out area)  and ADJUST

the two together.

remember to ADJUST The two parallel lines that are the IN-OUT method

together.

that's what makes the 3d polygon look like you cut a hole in it.
